Welcome to The Flying Turtle — a whimsical hideaway on St. Simons Island, inspired by a woman who taught us that life is best lived with equal parts heart and adventure.
This home is dedicated to the memory of Nancy Berlin: a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who made her mark on the world through love, loyalty, and a zest for life. Born in Scotland, raised in Canada, and a citizen of the world thanks to a 35+ year career with IBM, Nancy logged over 1.8 million miles in the sky - proof that even the most grounded souls can soar.
Over the years, “home” meant many places: Austin, New Orleans, Wilmington, Atlanta—and finally, her beloved St. Simons Island. She retired here in 2019, drawn by the warmth of the community, the rhythm of island life, and the chance to create home one final time. Her time here was filled with raising a glass with her now grown grandchildren, feeding her great-grandchildren cookies for breakfast, giving back to the community through the St. Simons Land Trust and Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, and sharing countless hours with dear friends made on the island.
We named this home The Flying Turtle in her honor: a symbol of gentle strength, steady purpose, and unexpected adventure. Like her, it’s grounded yet ready to take flight. Whether you’re here to relax, reconnect, or recharge, we hope you feel the spirit of Nancy in every breeze, book, and bit of sunshine.
Thanks for being part of her story—and now, ours.
